Kenji Sensei helps us understand our Pure Land path by applying the safety instruction of Mind the Gap.

This sign appears in the London Underground so commuters won't mis-step into the gap between the platform and the subway train.

In a spiritual context, Kenji Sensei asks us to be mindful of the gap between our expectations and the real challenges ahead of us. When we are attached to our expectations we are unhappy and are unable to respond with wisdom and compassion to the real situation in front of us.

Sensei also references the safety warning on English curbs, "Look Both Ways," to remind us we should listen to and respect opinions other than our own. In that way we will not be upset that people don't see things the way we do.
