Newsletter (Kaiho): The Bussei Script
Issues in 2019
The History of Our Newsletter’s Title
The name The Bussei Script dates to the days just after World War II when our English-speaking Buddhist youth (Bussei) banded together to produce an English-language newsletter to supplement an all-Japanese Temple newsletter. The newsletter was produced by a mimeograph machine.
A few years later, the versions were combined, English first, then Japanese, under the title The Bussei Script. This was an example of the ongoing integration of Japanese Americans into the American culture.
Informally, we also call the newsletter by the word kaiho, which is a generic Japanese word for newsletter or bulletin.
