January 8, 2023, January Monthly Memorial (Shotsuki Hoyo), with Rev. Laverne Imori. (1:21:15)

In this monthly memorial, we remember important friends and family who passed away in the month of January from the earliest days of the Buddhist Temple of San Diego. In this case this means Dharma friends and family from 1923 to 2018.


December 31, 2022, “How Many Buddhists Does It Take to Ring a Bell?” Speed video from Joya E (4:26)

Our “speed” video is four times faster than when recorded. With a start from Rev. Lavene Shidou Imori and a finish from Rev. Hōkai "Smitty" Smith, most attendees took a turn in helping us ring the Temple bell at least 108 times. This New Year’s Eve tradition is also observed throughout Japan and some other Asian countries.

MA Sharon Sasaki shares memories of her family’s dog, Koko, shows the viral video of Japanesee fans cleaning the stands following a World Cup soccer/football match, and reads “The Fall of Freddie the Leaf.” for Dharma School students, all in service of themes of interdependence and impermanence.
