WE APPRECIATE THE VFW

We are so grateful for the many years in which Bingo was hosted by our friends in the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 4851 (Asian Pacific Post).

Here is the acknowledgment of our debt tfrom Temple President LuAnn Lee. The note appeared in our February 2020 issue of the kaiho (newsletter), The Bussei Script. It has been edited very slightly here:

On Saturday, January 11th, the temple held their first solo run of Bingo. The VFW guys (Bob Poston, Gene Davies, Bob Buzzard) were there supporting the group and even had a chance to play along with their friends and families. There were a few new faces and this is very encouraging for the future of Bingo night at the temple.
Thank you to cochairs Qamar Bradford and Ralph Honda. Appreciation to the bingo crew Norman Kiyono, Arturo Rubio, Reverend Maribeth Smith (Smitty), Kris and Ron Tokunaga. Gratitude to Kikue Graeber, Ruby Hara, Irene Tomoi and Betty Torio for making the delicious hot dogs, chili and taking care of the drinks. Thanks to Smitty for making her famous chicken soup, it was tasty.

During the intermission, Ralph Honda was able to thank the Post for their hosting of the game for some four decades, with the last 12 years cohosted with the Temple with games offered in the Temple Annex Hall. Attendees gave the VFW volunteers a round of applause.

The Board also appreciates the long advanced notice that the existing team of VFW Bingo volunteers would be retiring in 2020… [and] for committing to help train the Temple volunteers for the first fiew games and started with the final game of 2019 on Saturday, December 14.

~ LuAnn Lee, Board President
