Shukatsu, a modern term in Japan, refers to the many aspects of end-of-life planning. To avoid the pain and confusion of death and its impact on family and friends, now in Japan it is a new tradition to talk things through ahead of time and make sure plans are in place.

Join usNew Time! At the Temple in our air-conditioned Annex Hall from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or so for the latest in Shukatsu as presented by Mitsuo Tomita, M.D., retired family physician.

FOCUS ON DEMENTIA, IMPLICATIONS FOR PLANNING

Topics will include dementia diagnosis, stages, new tests, new treatment pros and cons, progression, dementia directives, palliative management, and end-of-life choices.

For this session, Dr. Tomita has invited two experts from the community, Lisa Heikoff, M.D., geriatrician and palliative care physician, Kaiser Permanente, and Margaret Elizondo, M.D., hospice and palliative care physician, Sharp Healthcare.

The session is expected to last some 90 minutes and there will be time for informal conversation and socializing after as well.
