hello...

Curt Yasuhara

Thanks for your interest in the Buddhist Temple of San Diego.

We’ve been around longer than you might think. We started in 1926 at Sixth and Market in downtown San Diego. By 1930 we moved east to where we are now.

With roots in the Japanese-American community, and proud of our start as an ethnic temple, we are prouder yet that our Sangha has grown increasingly diverse.

If you have been around Jodo Shinshu temples already, you should feel right at home. If you are still learning about Buddhism, you will feel right at home with.

We are happy to share our approach of Everyday Buddhism for Everyday People. Our motto is, “Come as You Are.” Who you are now is exactly who you should be. Why? “The Buddha’s path is right below your feet.”

This website will give you a feel for our activities, our diverse Sangha, our support of the community, and our simple approach to Buddhism. This approach is inherited through 2500 plus years of change and refinement.

I see how the spirit of the Buddha’s message travels well through time and cultures. This is true of our Temple too. With roots in India and Japan, our Temple flowers and grows in San Diego, and we invite you to be a part of that growth into the future.

In gassho (palms together),

Curt Yasuhara
