Upcoming Course with Rev. Ken Tanaka Has BTSD Connections

Posted by Bill Teague. Buddhist Education

UPDATE: It turns out that two of the ten monthly sessions will feature someone with deep BTSD connections. On January 3, our Certified Minister’s Assistant, Sharon Sasaki, will be a guest speaker, and on February 7, Rev. Dr. Kenji Akahoshi, our former Resident Minister, will be a guest speaker. It is wondefful to see this karmic connection between our Sangha and Rev. Tanaka’s course.

For additional information about the upcoming online course from Rev. Ken Tanaka, we wanted to share that each monthly session will include conversations with a layperson and an ordained minister. In two of the months, that means someone of our past or current Sangha.

Rev. Ken Tanaka has written some of the most accessible introductions to Shin Buddhism in English, including Ocean and Jewels. Since retiring from his teaching career in Japan, he continues to support Jodo Shinshu in his writings, addresses, and the upcoming course. The course includes informal chats with regular laypeople as well as dedicated Buddhist teachers. As such, the format promises to be readily accessible to those beyond an introductory understanding.

Note: Rev. Tanaka is working on a sequel to Ocean, and the new book (not yet finalized) informs this course.
