Background: Kiku Matsuri Returns Bigger and Better
Last year, more than 1,600 people gathered for Kiku’s inaugural Japanese festival, Akimatsuri. Featuring local food vendors, taiko drummers, dancers, musicians, and other community performers, the celebration was enthusiastically embraced by attendees.
This year, the festival returns with a new name: Kiku Matsuri. The name reflects what makes this celebration special—a Japanese festival created by San Diego locals, for San Diego locals.
Kiku Matsuri will take place at an exciting new location: Hangar 858, a one-of-a-kind venue on a working airfield. This year’s festival will be bigger and better, with two stages, Bon Odori dancing, more food and activities, and an expanded entertainment lineup.
