Please Note: The Temple deeply thanks Rev. Smitty for stepping in when Rev. Sterling Davenport, Resident Minister, fell ill. Rev. Sterling thanks everyone for their support and is happy to be back at work at the Temple as of this update.
GOTAN-E is a major service in Jodo Shinshu, as we observe the birthday of Shinan Shonin, and express our gratitude for the teachings.
Rev. Smitty will officiate and provide the Adult Dharma Message.
Ralph Honda will chair the service.
Norman Kiyono will provide a message for the Dharma School Youth and the rest of the Sangha on the Temple’s first time capsule and the one we will prepare for our 100th Anniversary.
Kaytee Sumida, Minister’s Assistant, will lead the 9:00 a.m. practivd
Ann Ong will be our organist.
Note: After students in the Dharma School are excused, they will be led in a craft project with Wendy Nakamura, calligrapher and sumi-e artist, who will direct students inmaking custom uchiwa (flat fans) to commemorate our 100th Anniversary.
Rev. Smitty will remain in the Hondo to answer questions after the service.
We thank Gregg Yonekura for supplying decorated cakes to share in hospitality. One cake is dedicated to Shinran Shonin, and the other to our Temple on its 100th birthday, The Temple was founded in the third week of May, back in 1926.
