GOMEINICHI -- Shinran's Monthly Memorial
Always conducted on the 16th of each month, Gomeinichi often falls during the week. When it falls on a Sunday, it is much more convenient for more of the Sangha. It is held on the 16th to memorialize Shinran’s death on the 16th day of January, 1263.
Please join us when you can, usually in the Hondo (main hall) for GOMEINICHI, in which we express our gratitude to Shinran Shonin as the founder of our tradition. We will chant the Shoshin Nembutse Ge in his honor. Typically the memorial is held the 16th of each month in many Jodo Shinshu Temples.
The tradition has been maintained by our many resident ministers and in recent years by Rev. Hōkai “Smitty” Smith. In November, Arturo Rubio, Certified Minister’s Assistant, will lead the service for November.
In December, the next Gomeinichi service will fall on Tuesday, February 16 in the Hondo, at 10 a.m.,
The Gomeinichi servce shows its appreciation by chanting the Shoshinge (the short form of the Soshin Nembutsu Ge) , written by Shinran..
