SATURDAY, November 22 with Dr. Mits Tomita, Rev. Noriko Kawai, and Rev. Mica Togami
Please RSVP to the Temple (info@btsd.net or 619-239-0896) to let us know you will be coming, even if you have attended previous sessions of the seminar. We will meet Saturday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m. in the Annex Hall.
Our final seminar in 2025 will focus on the role of the hospital or hospice chaplain in the end-of-life process, with additonal comments on griefcare.
Our knowledgeable host and emcee is again retired family practitioner, Dr. Mitsuo Tomita, MD. His hand-picked panel consists of Rev. Mica Togami, and our own Rev. Noriko Kawai, both of whom much experience working as chaplains and with not just the person near death but alo their families.
Rev. Kawai is a member of the Buddhist Temple of San Diego, and recentliy ordained in Kyoto. This is her second ordination, as she was previouslyi ordained as a nonsectarian minister as part of her early chaplaincy. Rev. Togami serves as the Manager of Spiritual Care and Education and the Program Director for the CPE program at Sharp Memorial Hospital here in San Diego. She is a Board member of the Alliance of Baptists.
Although religion will not be at the forefront of the presentation, and chaplains serve patients of all religions, Rev. Kawai is ordained in Buddhism and Rev. Togami in Christianity.
What Is Shukatsu?
Shukatsu, a modern term in Japan, refers to the many aspects of end-of-life planning. To avoid the pain and confusion of death and its impact on family and friends, now in Japan it is a new tradition to talk things through ahead of time and make sure plans are in place.
Join us at the Temple in our now air-conditioned Annex Hall from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. or so for the latest in Shukatsu as presented by Mitsuo Tomita, M.D., retired family physician.
The session is expected to last some 90 minutes and there will be time for informal conversation and socializing after as well. Light refreshments will be served.
