THE IMPORTANCE OF SHOTSUKI HOYO, our MONTHLY MEMORIAL

Each month we schedule a Shotsuki Hoyo (“showt-sookey hoh-yo”) as a memorial to deceased friends and family members who died in that month. In this way we can be sure to remember them at least once each year. Sho means “joyous,” Tsuki means “month,” and Hoyo means “Dharma essence.” Each month we find joy in remembering the Dharma essence of specific individuals who have passed away.

The names are read, and we come forward to pay our respects before the shrine. Each month, a complete list of the current month’s Shotsuki names can be found in our December Kaiho or newsletter.

Want to remember a loved one each year? You may contact the Temple to learn more about our Shotsuki and Eitaikyo programs.
