Mochitsuki

Every year in December, Temple members and friends of all ages, from the youngest Dharma School student to the young at heart, gather for a day of participating in the Japanese cultural tradition of making mochi (0small circular rice cakes) for the New Year.

The day will start off early (6:00 AM), and go until approximately 3:00 PM, or until the last batch of mochi is pounded!

Duties consist of: Steaming of the mochigome (sweet rice); Grinding & Pounding the steamed rice into mochi; Cutting & Shaping mochi (this work is done by adults); Cooling of the mochi (fanning & turning of the mochi until it's cool enough to package); Packaging of the mochi; and transporting the mochi from the "Cooling Station" to the Pick-up area.

There are PLENTY of tasks to do, so please come on out!
